As we've started hearing more about different people's enterprises, I thought I might mention my own.   Although I've been back at work for 6 years now since my last major relapse, promotion has always been a difficult issue. I've always been worried about getting to the higher level and then being stuck there, struggling to cope, at times when I have a dip in health/energy.

I tried a temporary promotion for 9 months, which went quite well but didn't feel sustainable.   So instead I get additional fulfilment through a number of projects, which are flexible enough that I can increase or decrease activity in them as I need to (theoretically, anyway!).  These include:

- co-ordinating the wellies network!   Though I have opted out of organising get-togethers, as I was finding that was taking just a bit more commitment than I had to offer.

- I'm in the final year an IT diploma at Birkbeck University of London ... which is fabulous because it's modular and you can take several years over it, so I really can plan my level of commitment quite carefully.

- I have an allotment, which does take a fair bit of physical effort - but I'm taking a strictly no-dig, gradualist approach so it's reasonably ME-friendly.   And thanks to all the mulch, it seems to have coped pretty well with quite a bit of neglect this year.

- And my biggest project is a small-but-thriving web design business - see www.amree.com .  Web design is great because unlike so many jobs it has a nice colourful end product that's out there for the world to see.   It also combines a number of my interests - IT, organisational development (which is my day job) and user-friendly communication.   The other great thing about this is that if ever the s**t really hits the fan again healthwise, a few hours' web design work a week should hopefully save me from having to grapple with the benefits system, as that bit of my brain seems to keep working even when I'm quite ill.

Anyone else got any ventures to share? Anne-Marie x
