There is a super website called www.do-it.org.uk which has loads of volunteering opportunities on it and is easy to use. Free too. I have used it several times.

The Action for ME website has an information sheet, "a guide to benefits", including sections on Jobseekers Allowance, Tax Credits and Permitted Work.
